Our own little sanctuary...

A child's bedroom is a very special place. It's within those four walls where they can relax and be themselves. With time it becomes their own little sanctuary, a place to call their own.

The reason for this post is to help my children and I remember how their bedrooms looked when they were small. It would also be nice to look at how their rooms evolve over the years. It's all of the little things that are within those four walls that make it uniquely their own. Such as the sheets on the bed, books on the shelf, pictures on the wall and toys that they love. My children often keep things in their room that are very special to them.

Natalie's room today has a dresser that was given to us by friends that moved to Prague, it's a beautiful antique that I painted green and yellow. A matching book shelf sits in the corner that I got from Lowe's for $10 because it was a display. With some paint and putty to fill the peg holes the shelf fit in the room great! The bed was found for $20 at a yard sale, Thomas and I painted it together to match the existing furniture. Grandma Dunham gave us the green bench sitting by the windows, Natalie loves to sit up there and read her books. It's also a place where she often tucks her dolls in to sleep for the night.

Ryland's room was recently changed from a nursery to a "big boy" room. We took the valences down that had a sheep theme and removed the sheep mobile that was hanging from the ceiling. We put up navy blue curtains instead and I made little flags to drape across the top. There are a variety of sport themed details like a clock, pictures, and wall hooks. We found his antique dresser at a yard sale for $100 and the desk was handed down from grandma and papa. The rocking chair remains in the room since there are nights when I still get to rock my little baby. Ryland loves to play with his train table and car garage, I've heard many vrrroom, vroom noises coming from his room. There is a lamp on his dresser that Grandma Ann made and daddy had in his room while growing up. It's a canning jar with multi-colored marbles inside, there are so many things that make this lamp special.

I have to confess that the idea for this post wasn't all mine. I was inspired by a woman who is full of wisdom, the woman happens to be my mother-in-law Ann.
